The $1000 award for school-related expenses was presented by Charles E. Reichel, Executive Director of the National Creative Society. He and his wife Sharon underwrite this  annual, competitive award  as a legacy gift in honor of their daughter Cara Loelle and son-in-law Peter Mills who are among the Founders of the Prospect Theater in New York City. Prospect is now entering it second decade as is the National Creative Society. In the first two years of its existence, the Prospect theater came to Rome, GA to present summer stock theater. Their efforts were supported through the National Creative Society and various local "Angels"  including Mrs. Julia Dodd, George Wallis, Patsy and Jerry Hubbard and other NCS founders.  Alison is the daughter of Alan and Renee Fuller and Mrs. Fuller is pictured with her daughter Alison in the entryway to  Rome's historic DeSoto Theater. Prospect presented several of its early plays at the DeSoto. National Creative Society Announces New Scholarship

Scholarship

Dr. Charles E. Reichel and Dr. Randy Phillips

NY

Charles Reichel with daughter, Cara Reichel and her husband, Peter Mills of the Prospect Theater, NYC

Dr. Randy Phillips, President of the National Creative Society and chairman of its Scholarship Committee, today announced a new $1,000 award to be offered annually. The scholarship award is to be named the Prospect Theater Founders and Angels Scholarship and will be underwritten annually by Charles and Sharon Reichel. The Reichel’s estate provisions will allow for this scholarship to be reviewed and adjusted as needed and to extend beyond their lifetimes.

Like the four other existing National Creative Society scholarships, this is to be  a competitive, adjudicated award that will be offered for the continuing higher education of a high school senior who is an active member of an active chapter of the National Creative Society. Specifically the award will be given for the writing of the book or composing the musical score of a new play. The Reichels are honoring the young founders of the Prospect Theater, including their daughter Cara and son-in-law Peter Mills and their ongoing work and accomplishments in New York City. The Prospect troupe came to Rome and produced inspiring summer theater, under the sponsorship of the National Creative Society, during the summers of 1999 and 2000.

With this annual scholarship the Reichels also want to provide ongoing thanks to the “angels” who supported the troupe in those years and other Founders of the National Creative Society. Among the supporters thankfully honored are Mrs. Julia Dodd, Mr. Lyons and Mrs. Jo Heyman and the Heyman Family Foundation, Mr. Jerry and Mrs. Patsy Hubbard, Dr. Hunter and Mrs. Barbara Myers, Mr. Delos Yancy, III and the State Mutual Insurance Company and Wallis Printing Company.

Dr. Charles Reichel, Executive Director of the National Creative Society, long-time Board member, and past President, said, “This is something we wanted to begin in celebration of the National Creative Society’s tenth anniversary year and at the beginning of a new decade of  our national outreach and expansion. We hope that others will follow our lead to establish legacy grants in support of the NCS’ mission to “champion young artists!”

The National Creative Society was officially chartered in the Fall of 1997.  Reichel continued, “It has been my great privilege to have worked together with the founders of the National Creative Society. Some of these do not yet have a named scholarship in their honor. Among those NCS’ founders whom Sharon and I wish to honor are its first President Valeria Orr, Lisa Smith and the late Bob Rock. These folks, with the other founders, helped to catalyze, stabilize, and continue the National Creative Society to help keep creative, artistic lights shining.”

Dr. Phillips, on behalf of the Board, received the initial 2007 gift check and noted that the Reichels also provided sufficient funds for the first year funding of all existing named scholarships: the George Wallis scholarship, The Wesley and Jean Johnson scholarship, the Ouida Dickey scholarship and the Ferne Gibson scholarship.

Phillips said, “We thank the Reichels for this legacy, leadership initiative. We also thank all our supporters over our first ten years, certainly, we invite all local and area schools to ‘Charter a chapter and champion young artists!’  In celebration of our tenth birthday we are offering free charter memberships along with our other benefits to build deeply successful students, school systems and a more beautiful world.”
